WESTERN AUSTRALIA WHALE MIGRATION

With Whale migration season soon approaching, there are a few important things we all need to REMEMBER:

Southern right whales often rest in shallow coastal waters with their calves before continuing their journey to Antarctica. Did you know female southern right whales can weigh up to 90 tonnes? 🌊

To keep both whales and people safe, the following regulations apply if you’re within 300m of a whale:

✅ Vessels must not approach within 100m or within a 60° arc of the whale’s travel direction or from behind.

✅ If a whale interacts with your vessel, stay 100m away, keep your motor in neutral, or move slowly at <6 knots to maintain distance.

✅ End all interaction if there’s any sign of distress or disturbance.

✅ Swimmers must stay at least 100m away, and drones/RPAs must remain 60m away.

Let’s respect these gentle giants and enjoy the incredible experience of seeing them safely. 🐳💙
